Meals on Wheels in Terre Haute, Indiana, focuses on caring for individuals whose diminished mobility makes it hard to shop for food, prepare meals or socialize with others. We provide service to Vigo County, and have been in operation since 1971. The only requirement is a need for nutritious meals, without the ability to provide them or access them.

We really are more than just a meal!
HOME MEAL DELIVERY
Terre Haute Area Meals on Wheels delivers nutritious meal, a safety check and a smile that serves as a lifeline for seniors of limited mobility, homebound individuals, and those in Vigo County in need of nutritious meals. This combination goes well beyond fighting the battle against the hunger that threatens one in six of America’s seniors – it provides the support and peace of mind that enable them to remain safely and securely in their own homes as they continue to age. Enabling seniors to stay in their own homes means they remain happier, extend their independence and can stay connected to the communities and surroundings that provide them comfort. The powerful side effect of this result is that it means seniors can stay out of expensive nursing facilities and hospitals. Meals on Wheels can feed a senior for 1 YEAR for less than it costs for 1 DAY in a nursing facility!

CARING CONNECTIONS VISITING PROGRAM
Caring Connections is a community outreach program designed to enhance the quality of life of the elderly, disabled, sick and homebound Terre Haute Area Meals on Wheels meal recipients.
Our desire is to develop caring relationships with our clients and their families, working to combat their social isolation and loneliness. We aim to build rapport with our clients through letters, phone calls, and eventual visits from a trained group of community volunteers.
Recipients of our Meal Delivery Program are paired with a Community Connections volunteer as we are able, and that volunteer with connect with them to offer phone reassurance, and a friendly listening ear.
To learn more about this program, or to volunteer to participate, visit the Caring Connections page.
CLOTHING CLOSET
Through a partnership with the Loyal Veterans Battalion, we are able to offer members of our meal program gently used clothing when needed. A request form is located in the Welcome Packet that each new meal recipient gets, but you can also call the office at 812-232-3878 if you need seasonal clothing to be delivered with your next meal.
